Weatherization Amendment good for all MHBA members

May 27, 2010
Posted In: General

On May 12th, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued a press release about the amendment she wrote to the weatherization program that she hopes will help stimulate the modular home industry in Maine. The amendment will allow owners of mobile homes built before 1976 to access a $7,500 rebate when they purchase a new, Energy Star qualified modular home, plus an additional $2,500 to dispose of their old mobile home. For the complete press release, please refer to www.modularhomebuilders.org/news.

The legislation is now in the hands of the Senate. A call, email or letter to Senators Snowe and Collins urging them to vote in favor of this package would be advised.

With approximately 7500 pre-1976 mobile homes still in use in Maine, this amendment could create significant opportunity for Maine’s modular home manufacturers, builders and dealers. We will keep you up to date as more information becomes available.
